David James Hatton ATCL

David James Hatton ATCLDavid discovered his passion for music at the age of 9 and returned home from junior school with a euphonium in a bin bag. His step-father noticed this less than subtle hint of interest and took him to his local Brass band, Crosskeys Silver, in South Wales.

After 2 years he progressed onto principle cornet. During these early years, David played with several bands in the South Wales area including Newport Borough, Oakdale and Tredegar Town Band.

During this time David also studied at Crosskeys College. On leaving College in 1999 with a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts, he decided to join the Army as a musician and studied at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. David was posted to his first band, The Royal Tank Regiment Cambrai Band in Bad Fallingbostel, Germany, in November 2000. During this time, he gained a diploma in performance from Trinity College London and travelled extensively over Europe.

In 2006 he was posted to Bovington, Dorset, to join the newly formed Light Cavalry Band. During his time in the band David has toured Brunei, Canada and parts of Europe. Upon moving to Dorset, David joined Weymouth Concert Brass in 2007 on percussion and eventually joined Yeovil Town Band as principle cornet in 2009. Currently he plays solo tutti cornet for Bournemouth Concert Brass and the British Army Brass Band.

His general interests are music, architecture, running, sailing and skiing.

Currently David is studying a Masters Degree in Symphonic Wind Band and Brass Band Direction.
