New Band Room at Severalls Hall

For several years, we have been in discussions with Crewkerne Town Council to find a new rehearsal room we could call our own. Earlier this year, the town council agreed to fund work to redevelop the Severalls Hall building in Crewkerne for us to use. We have been anxiously waiting for the contracts to be signed and work to be completed but we are now in the final stages of moving and should be ready for our first rehearsal on Tuesday 9th June.

The move to the new rehearsal room is a positive step forward for the band, as it gives us a place to which we have sole usage so can entertain extra rehearsals, and we have also discussed the possibility of setting up a junior band later in the year. We have several people we need to thank, without whom this move would not have been possible:

  • All the members of Crewkerne Town Council, all of whom have been very supportive of the band, in particular Annette Roffey
  • Julie Bulgin (past Band Secretary) who worked with Annette and the Town Council to try and raise funds for the building work
  • Lynda Read (current Secretary), Chris Murphy (Chairman) and Colin Gardiner (Treasurer), who have given up a lot of time over the past few months ensuring the move goes ahead
  • The Unitarian Church, for their continued support and use of their hall since the band's formation over 10 years ago

Looking forward to Tuesday Night

We gained access to the building on Wednesday and have been busy with the final preparations ahead of rehearsals next week. Two of our bass section (Alan Read and Colin Gardiner) have been working throughout the day laying carpet tiles. Many thanks for this, it certainly makes a huge difference to the room.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped get the band room up and ready. This is a massive positive move for the band, can't wait to get in and rehearse on Tuesday.

I can't believe its finally happened.  I'm sure all the blood sweat and tears will have been worth it.  Thank you to the committee for dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's.  I would also like to thank Anette Roffey who has always supported the band and appreciated the work that we have put into achieving this.

Hooray!
