Final Preparations for Torquay

As we near the final rehearsals in preparation for the WEBBA 2018 Regional Finals in Torquay, we are keeping our fingers crossed that the snow does not make its way into Somerset.

We have 3 full rehearsals scheduled where Gary will be putting the finishing touches to the test piece, so it would be helpful if the weather gods were on our side to make sure we don't have to cancel any. Our players travel from as far away as Tiverton so any heavy snowfall would be a problem for players making the trip to band.

The weather aside, we're looking forward to competing again in Torquay this year. The test piece, "Ex Terra Lucem" by Jonathan Bates, is a good test for the band. Technically it is not as hard as others we've faced but the test will be in how bands can shape the music, maintain good tuning and intonation and observe the contrasting dynamics throughout. The slow sections, in particular, will highlight the good from bad bands as you will need confident soloists underpinned by a supportive and not overpowering accompaniment.

Gary and Tom have been working us hard so we hope we're ready to give a confident, and hopefully, stylish performance in Torquay. If you are interested in listening to us, please find full details of the contest on the WEBBA website here.
