Band Social 2012

Last night saw 27 players and partners head to the Rose and Crown at East Lambrook for our annual band social meal and awards night.

This is the third year running that the band has had an annual meal on it's agenda. This evening is aimed to get as many band members and partners out together for a night of fun away from music and the band room.

Sadly we were a little short on numbers last night, some away with the Easter holidays and others ill but there were still enough to make a great atmosphere and have fun.

Part of the evening gave our MD, Dave, a chance to show his thanks and support to a few players and sections in the band. This year Dave introduced a series of awards, these were given to:

  • Bandsperson(s) of the Year :- Dave & Julie Bulgin
  • Best newcomer :- Emma Sanders
  • Best instrumentalist :- Matt Read
  • Most improved :- Mark Buglin

All above received trophies, or in Dave and Julie's case a shared cup, as "praise" from Dave.

In addition there were a few certificates that Dave created, a few serious but also a few for a laugh, these included:

  • Biggest clanger of the year :- Matt Read for stopping the band mid-rehearsal with the wosrt solo in the last test piece
  • Best percussion :- Bass section for the continual rattling of their noisy values
  • Most mistakes :- Dave Coles
  • Best section :- Cornets ... am not sure if Dave was joking about this but we'll take it anyway :)

Thanks to everyone for coming, and thanks to Dave, Julie and Chris for helping organise the evening.

Congratulations to all those that won an award (whether wanted or not).

Finally thanks must go to Alison and Graham from the Rose and Crown for the great food and help in organising everything.
