Exmouth Contest

Last Saturday Phoenix Brass took part in the Exmouth Entertainment Contest. Ten bands from all over the South West played this year, each performing a 25 minute indoor and outdoor programme. We were one of the lucky bands that managed to play our outside programme in the sunshine before the weather took a turn for the worse later in the day.  We chose a traditional programme this year under our new conductor Sam Hairsine performing music ranging from the overture from the Barber of Seville to the theme from Batman the Movie. The performance went down well with the audience and we achieved 2nd place in the 2nd section and 4th place overall, a promising result for our first contest under new direction from Sam. We must thank the players who kindly helped us out this year; Anne Stone, Larry Trerise and Liz Carter on cornet, Alan Harding on horn and John Davis playing percussion. Sadly one of our most committed members of the band, Dave Coles was unable to play this year due to illness yet he was still there to support the band in the audience and we all wish him a speedy recovery. Thanks to everyone who came to support the band this weekend we hope to see you again next year.
