Crewkerne Town Crier Competition

‘Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!’

On Saturday 7th June many local Town Criers and their Escorts were out in their finery in Crewkerne to compete for the Bellman Trophy.  During the event finale the winner was announced and Phoenix Brass performed.  Following a wet morning some were questioning if the event would be postponed but the rain clouds left and a beautiful sunny afternoon emerged.  Ever the optimist, Annette Roffey who works for Crewkerne Town Council had promised us sunshine when she booked the band so there should have been no doubt it would turn up!

Steve Taylor, the band’s principal euphonium player, kindly took the baton for this performance and expertly lead the band through Aces High, All in the April Evening, Beauty and the Beast, Mr Jums and more.  It is increasingly difficult to provide a band on a Saturday, due to work commitments, so this was a small band performance.  As the saying goes ‘quality not quantity’ matters and our performance did not disappoint, providing another quality performance by Phoenix Brass (Crewkerne).  It was also great to perform in our Town once more.
