Charity Concert in Chard in Aid of Dementia

On Saturday 18th October Phoenix Brass in conjunction with Chard Concert Band hosted a charity concert at the Guildhall in Chard in aid of dementia. All credit must go to Ivor Hutchings, bass player for Phoenix who fulfilled a longstanding desire by organising this event to raise funds for a cause close to his heart.

Chard Concert Brass opened the concert and soon had the audience tapping their feet to pieces such as ‘Baggy Trousers’ by Madness and Tom Jones’ Delilah. It was then Phoenix’s turn to entertain with a programme including Hello Dolly and Macarthur Park.

During the interval from the music representatives from the Dementia and Alzheimer’s Society gave a short but informative presentation. This allowed both bands to ‘quietly’ squeeze onto the tiny stage which proved quite a challenge.

The final part of the concert featured the massed bands playing pieces such as Florentine March, A Special Place, the Conquest of Paradise and a wonderful arrangement of Abide With Me.

Ivor was thrilled to have raised £750 for his chosen charity. Special thanks must be given to Dave Bertie who conducted Phoenix in the absence of a regular MD. The band certainly enjoyed playing under his leadership.

Released On 30th Oct 2014
