Enjoyable Night in South Petherton

Thanks to all who turned out to see the band play at South Petherton on Saturday evening. The concert was very enjoyable and relaxed. The "Post Horn" gallop encore raised a few laughs when the younger (Jimmy excluded) cornet players came racing through the audience riding hobby horses. All in all, the concert was a success with the band receiving some very kind words of thanks from the audience.

The band played a varied progarmme of music including music by Ralph Vaughan Williams through to hits by Frankie Vallia and ABBA. Highlights of the evening were the trumpet duet by Dave Coles and Matt Read, the "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" trombone solo played by Dave Bell and of course our encore featuring our conductor Dave Hatton on post horn, and Jimmy in his zebra outfit.

The sad news for the band is that this concert is likely to be the last that our MD, Dave Hatton, will be with the band. As of September Dave is relocating to London as he has been selected to study at Kneller Hall for his BandMasters course in the Army. Dave will be staying around to help the band over the coming months, but we are now in the process of auditioning new talent to come and conduct the band.

Dave Hatton has been with the band for the past 3 years during which time we've had much fun and many successes. It is with regret that we have to say goodbye but he leaves with the bands best wishes and a huge thanks for all his support and hard work for the effort he has put into the band.

Finally thanks must go to the staff and Church at South Petherton for their help and support in allowing the band to stage the concert. Fingers crossed this won't be our last time performing in South Petherton.
