Looking Forward to the Weekend

This weekend sees Phoenix playing on both Saturday and Sunday at different events, making this our busiest one of the summer. On Saturday the band are taking part in the annual Exmouth Entertainment Contest, whilst on Sunday we are playing at the Dillington House Open Day, nr Ilminster.

Exmouth Entertainment Contest

This is an anual event which attracts bands from around the South West of England to come and compete at the Pavilions on Exmouth sea front. The day is a fairly relaxed affair, with all competing bands performing twice. Weather permitting, all bands play a 25 minute programme in the gardens outside the Pavilions, whilst the main competition is held on the main stage in the Pavilions.

For all people who enjoy listening to brass band music, the Exmouth contest is a great day out. The music in the gardens is a free event, so you can sit back, relax and listen to the bands play a varied selection of entertaining music. For those that want to venture inside to hear the main competition taking place, buy a ticket for the Pavilions and you will be able to hear each band play a 25 minute programme of their own choice of music.

If you are travelling down to Exmouth to especially hear Phoenix, we are drawn to play outside at 01:20 pm and later at 5:10 pm in the main competition. Having had our last rehearsal last night, the band is primed and ready to go. Paul has chosen a great selection of music which we hope will put us in with a shout of some prizes.

Finally we have had to recruit a few helpers for the contest  so I would like to make a quick mention of thanks here, a huge thanks goes to Mark on Soprano Cornet, Tony on Bb Cornet, Susan on Trombone and Pete on EEb Bass.

Dillington House Open Day

On Sunday Phoenix are playing at the Dillington House Open Day, nr Ilminster from 01:15 pm onwards. Admission is free, here is what Dillington say about the afternoon:

"A relaxing afternoon to look around Dillington and to explore the house and gardens and find out about the history of the House. For many this will be the first chance to see The Hyde, a spectacular new contemporary building, offering 2 superb multi-purpose studios as well as 15 boutique style bedrooms.

There will be live music and many other attractions throughout the afternoon, including The Night Owls, Taunton Garrison and Phoenix Brass. There will be the chance to take part in a choice of free mini courses on subjects such as painting, family history and writing, as well as joining in a session of Tai Chi. Tutors will be on hand to chat about the many courses on offer in the current programme.

Food and refreshments will be available.

Why not go along and take your friends and family for a great afternoon out!"
